Nilam - Athangudi Tiles Collection
Nilam. நிலம். Ground. Floor. Earth.
Athangudi tiles once adorned the mansions of Chettinad, floors that saw the everyday happenings of generations.
Heritage flooring asks a lot of you: a home you own, floors you can tear up, logistics most rentals and cities won't forgive. We didn't want the artform to wait for all of that.
We've redesigned them to be part of your everyday life instead: an object you actually reach for, hold, and use.
That's the true north of how we design. Heritage that earns its keep in daily use, not heritage kept behind glass. Each tile is handmade with sand and earth from the Chettinad region itself, cast by hand, and cured by sun and water & never fired in a kiln, a slower process that lets color settle into the tile rather than sit on the surface of it.
Hold one and you'll feel why: a texture no machine repeats, edges that are honest about being made by hand, a weight that means it stays exactly where you put it. Bold, color-blocked geometry that reads as confidently modern as it does heritage - a well-designed object first, a storied one second.
The same tiles, the same soil, the same hands, now sized to hold your morning chai.
Nilam: named for the ground it came from. At home on any table it lands on. No two pieces are quite alike - the kind of variation only a hand-cast object has.
A curated small batch.
