The village of Kondapalli in Andhra Pradesh has been producing wooden toys and figurines for over four hundred years. Artisans here work exclusively with Ponniki, a soft, lightweight wood native to the Eastern Ghats carving, joining, and coating each piece with a tamarind-seed paste before applying vivid natural colors. The characteristic brightness is intentional: Kondapalli work celebrates life.
