Cheriyal scroll painting originated in Telangana as a storytelling medium travelling artists, known as Nakashi, would unroll large painted scrolls and narrate folk tales and mythological epics to village audiences. The bold outlines, flat perspective, earthy reds and yellows, and distinctive wide-eyed figures are an unmistakable visual language developed over centuries.

Today, Cheriyal has found its way from scrolls to framed works and functional objects, brought forward by the Nakashi families who still hold its technique. Our pieces are made with natural pigments and feature the characteristic joyful, narrative quality that makes Cheriyal painting immediately alive regardless of whether you know its stories or not.
